I’m now on the urgent list, as every bone is screaming with pain. So I’m looking at January, does anyone have any tips for me? To prepare for before and after ? What to expect etc?

Thanks

Hi KimPV,

I had a partial hysterectomy on July. If it's an abdominal hysterectomy, I would advice you to try to lose weight and do abs as much as you can, so your abdomen is strong for the surgery. The swollen belly last for months! So the abs help beforehand. Try to walk after the surgery too (first two weeks, max 20 minutes and then increase the pace), you will feel much better. And eat healthy! Veggies and fruits are your friends 😉 I hope this helps you! Good luck in your surgery!

Hi KimPV

Loosen up your pelvis if you can. Lie on your back, knees bent, keep feet together and lower your knees careful to one side and then the other without rotating your spine. Pelvic tilts, pelvic floor exercises both helpful. Before surgery, stretch your glutes and abductor muscles and just generally warm them up a bit if you can. You could be up in stirrups for a while and it can ache a lot on top of everything else if these muscles aren’t used to being in that position. Wish someone had told me!

Practically, get some ready meals or homemade and frozen. Get some books in and learn a new hobby that you can do sitting down because day time telly is deadly boring after the novelty has worn off. Stock up on paracetamol. They’ll give you some painkillers to take home, but you don’t want to run out. Get some comfy leggings.

Good luck xx

Afterwards listen to your body and rest whenever you feel tired. I had TAH and BSO last February and was signed off work for 6 weeks and needed it! Peppermint tea is your friend as well!
