I was diagnosed with parathyroid 2 years ago. It was not thought I required an operation and was not been offered any form of treatment. Have you been offered an operation or treatment?

I had my parathyroid removed about 10 years ago. It left a scar, but it is fine. I didn't need calcium tablets.

Hi I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 15 years ago after taking medication for 3 years to calm things down my parathyroid started to cause problems and I now take calcium tablets of a high dose everyday. Although I now have put on alot of weight whereas before I was losing it rapidly and was very thin I cope well so don't worry. You don't always need an operation. I know one lady who took radioactive tablets to 'burn' away hers and now she takes thyroxine eveyday and another who had the op and does the same. I suppose I am lucky for now

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago and at the same time my Vitamin B level was critically low. I took an extremely high dose in one tablet once a week for 6 months. I now take a combined calcium and VB tablet twice a day. So far no adverse side effects.

Hi is the weight gain related to the parathyroid ? I have a family member who eats moderately and has a good diet but has gained weight despite this, she has had a problem with her parathroid which responded to medication I think, she did not require an operation. I think it is possibly her parathyroid contributing to weight gain, but what could be done to help this?

There is no way you could have been diagnosed as having a parathyroid on your ankle.
