Earlier in the year I was laid low with a nasty cough. It went on for a month and then it took a further month to feel human.
Once I had got over the worst I committed myself to walking back to wellness. In four months I have honestly gone from limp rag, where a couple of miles wore me out, to long distances. My biggest achievement has been to be close to completing The Thames Path as well as walking the London Canals and lots of other smaller walks. I walk almost every day now, with distances ranging from 4 miles to 30+ miles.
I count myself fortunate that I live within striking distance of so many cycle paths and foot paths and even though south east England is busy, there are so many opportunities for a good walk.
In my travels I have learnt lots, met and chatted with interesting people, seen lots of wet dogs and lone runners but sadly not seen so many families out and about just enjoying what is on their doorstep together. Most recreational walkers seem to be my generation - 60 something.
