Has anybody heard of the supposed healing effect of amino acids, and their effect on cognitive skills? If so, any thoughts/comments?

I don't know about amino acids. I am taking coenzyme q10 to boost my immune system and also improve my energy levels. Also taking vitamin B as it is supposed to help repair nerve damage. It's difficult to assess the effect but I did feel more exhausted when I tried stopping the Q10. ( it's not cheap)

I'm also eating oily fish by the lorry load for omega6.

Not really, fred, apart from the fact that they're found in proteins i.e.meat,fish,eggs etc. Haven't actually heard of amino supplements. Think we need to Google it ! x

Thanks for the replies. The reason I asked the question was that I read on another site that amino acids, specifically Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine were proven to be very effective in restoring a level of brain health. When I googled this - yes Cat, already did that!- it appears to be a supplement taken for body building. Whilst I would love to find a wonder supplement, I'm thinking that it could do more harm than good in a person who is worn out after 10 minutes of physio!

amino acid tryptophan is a precursor to a neurotransmitter (brain chemical) called serotonin. You can find tryptophan in dairy products and red meats especially.

More important than amino acids though is Vitamin C, it has been shown that people who take high dosages of Vitamin C daily have on average 5 points higher IQ performance.
