Sorry, this has nothing to do with my brain injury.

23 years ago today, I was on my second university caving club weekend away. We went caving up in Yorkshire, and then we had a bonfire party. At that party, I got off with a long-haired vegetarian hippy. I was a vegetarian, too, and I quite liked him.

The next year, we moved into a flat together, with some other friends. Then I moved to Southampton, to do a PhD. He worked near Peterborough for a year, but then he went up to do a PhD in Liverpool. There were quite a few weekends when I spent a rather long time on the train. Then I got a job in Brittany, so it was car-ferry-train... I thought, at the end of this contract, I'll go home, and I'll live with Rob again. But he finished his PhD, and found himself a lectureship. In Johannesburg. :-O Luckily, I managed to sort myself out a job in the same university, and we lived together in Jo'burg, for 3 or 4 years (where the 'braaivleis', their version of the BBQ, put paid to our being veggie!). Then I came home, because I got the job that I still have (in Surrey). Rob got a job in Stirling, up in Scotland. We got married in Yorkshire (where we were now members of the caving club, at whose cottage (or hut!) we had gotten off together). The wedding was on a Friday, and we had a big party. Then, the next night, we had another big party, in the pub near our caving club. On the Sunday, everyone else had gone home, but Rob and I walked up Ingleborough, and drank a bottle of champagne. Then, on Monday, I came back to Surrey, and he went back to Scotland. Thankfully, he moved down here not long afterwards!

Anyway, 23 years ago tonight, at a bonfire party, I got off with the scruffy hippy who I'm now married to. So tonight, after the fireworks, we *have* to have a little celebration, don't we?

Sorry, this has nothing to do with my brain injury, but I wanted to share it, anyway.
