wake up clocks and red light therapy

hi

Is it worth getting my fiancé (TBI survivor 2.5 years ago) a morning wake up clock? Just wondering if this will give him a more routined and “better” wake up. He tends to wake up quite early as 1:1 staff start at 7am, just wondered if this would be of any benefit?

also, I’ve recently read that NIVR can work wonders for helping post tbi. I’m unsure the process for starting this but wondered if anyone has tried this at all?

There's quite good evidence for the effectiveness of red light therapy for TBI. You can buy good devices from AliExpress which are much cheaper than buying locally. They are the same devicea that are sold here but without the branding.

Twice daily sessions of 15 minutes are thought to be effective. The light source needs to be quite close to the skull as penetration is weakened by the hair and thickness of the bone but if you look for case studies you'll see some encouraging results.

I use mine daily and sit with my forehead quite close to the panel. Eye protection is definitely needed.

This is very long and detailed but from the results section..

"This small pilot, open-protocol study using transcranial red/NIR LED therapy noted significant improvements in executive function (Stroop, Trial 3 inhibition; and Stroop, Trial 4 inhibition switching) and in verbal learning and memory (CVLT Total Trials 1–5; and Long Delay Free Recall), in chronic mTBI patients"

The technology has developed a lot since the paper was written so it's much easier to find appropriate devices now.

If you use it in conjunction with some standard tests (BrainHQ is pretty good for these) you can measure improvement over time.

Good luck with your search.

Not what you're looking for?
