I had/have a wonderful friend (an ex) but we were very close. In March 24 he suffered an anoxic cardiac arrest and I realised I nearly 'lost' someone I loved.
He's been in rehabilitation in Bristol since April 24 and I tell him I love him every day. I'm hoping love will save him. He's getting better and better but has cognitive problems.
He may be coming home next week, returning to his own flat but I'm aiming to be with him as much as possible. We'll be revisiting old haunts but also resting and eating good, healthy, unprocessed food.

Your friend has progressed really well. He may struggle with certain aspects of daily life as brain injury usually leaves remnants of some sort. For me it's short term memory, impaired mobility, emotional instability and fatigue.
But long term consequences are different for everyone ; I hope your friend might have dodged many.
You can download information on brain injury from Headway, or phone them for hard copies ; contact details are on the right hand side of this page.
I guess it's a case of 'Be aware of the worst and hope for the best'. He seems to have the massive advantage of your love & support. . .
