I had something akin to this for many years following my brain hiccup. I now think of it as the brain healing, attempting to make the right connections, something like a telephone switchboard getting all its lines crossed. It did resolve, but has left me with the defunct switchboard where I cannot be certain if some memories are accurate or just creations from fragments. I still find it difficult to isolate thoughts, especially when trying to learn something new as there doesn't seem to be the capacity to file the process in order.

Love the description .. yeah that sounds like just like me .. Infact I’ve also had things like sense of smell increase about the same time .. very bizarre and yes I’m learning to live with my wonky brain or switchboard 😂 sue 😂

Hi Sue,

I think maybe this is what is called flooding. It's when you get so many thoughts come at you at once you can't make sense of anything at all. And, in some cases the brain just overloads and stops. At least mine does.

It has gotten a more manageable as time has gone by, as healing has happened, and as I have learned to pace myself.

What helps me is to make a list of to do's ,questions, whatever, when my brain gives me a window of opportunity - and then I find the flooding less stressful as I know I really don't have to make sense of it right then, I can write down things as they come up and then have them down where I can see and deal with them.

Yes, it is frustrating not to be able to make lists when I want, I have to do it when the brain wants to. Seeing my brain as a partner rather than just an auto on demand function has helped me a lot. We agree to be kind to each other and yes it works.

Great response Leaf. For me, this has been so helpful to read:

“Seeing my brain as a partner rather than just an auto on demand function has helped me a lot.”

Thanks

This sounds exhausting Sue. It sounds like everyone arriving to your party at the exact same time and not knowing who to speak to first 🤪🥳 sounds familiar to me, that rush to try and make sense of it all, all at the same time. But as Boots and Leaf have put so well, it’s a sign of the brain healing and forging new pathways too, just all at the same time 🤪🤯. Hope it’s not too distressing for you.

oh wow!! Thank you all so much .. love how your analogy make so much sense and actually a way of describing to other people who have no idea ( lucky them ) ,also reading The Ghost In My Brain which someone on here recommended and have started writing in the book at bullet points that I want( or will ask my husband as can’t be sure if I can read it out loud to make any sense ) to read at my PIP tribunal that I said I want to attend , would you mind if I use screen shots of your replies in this in an attempt to explain how we all cope in a day to day level and you put it so well . I describe me as having 2 brains the old one who says yes as it don’t understand what the new brain can do and the new brain ( new me ) that make horrendous mistakes .. Sue 🥴

Love your description of brain overload helps me explain to others why I’m sometimes frozen like a rabbit in the headlights unable to make any decisions. Packing to go away is a classic time my brain is scrambled.
