Hi, I haven't had a shunt, but depression is a common result of a brain injury. It is better to get help quickly. Often this will initially involve medication, but can also include talking therapy's. People are sometimes afraid of medication, but they shouldn't be, they do help. Initial help is available from your GP, and the rehab team. It is better to receive treatment from neuro rehab, than from generic services. Titles you will come across are neuro-psychologist and neuro-psychiatrist. Don't worry about the fancy names, the neuro bit is the important part, as these specialise in brain injuries. 🍀
I agree with Pairofboots that you should seek out help with someone who specifically will understand the affects related to your shunt and the brain. The regular GPs who can prescribe meds for anxiety & depression won’t have a clue when it comes to the brain. You can try and self-talk all you want to break a cycle of anxiety or depression when you are causing it by your thoughts but I explain it when it is caused by injury to the brain as my brain is short circuiting which takes time and possibly medication if a neuro specialist can find the right one. Best wishes in getting through this and finding the right person to help. 😊
