Hypoxic brain injury

Hi there

I suffered hypoxic brain injury in 2019 following 2 cardiac arrests due to unknowingly kidney failure as a result of Vascilitis, auto immune disease I didn't know I had. This has left me with mobility issues, poor concentration and some short term memory issues. Has anyone experienced this and what has helped them?

I have a hypoxic brain injury from cardiac arrest 12/03/2018.

I suffered numerous cognitive/perception issues that have mostly resolved with the passage of time.

Hi veniceinperil, I too suffered a hypoxic brain injury after two cardiac arrests in 2018. I was discharged without any rehab or therapy plan and am still waiting today. I have been told there is no hope of outpatient physio until April (new financial year). The main enduring after-effects are fatigue and mobility problems. I have paralysis / spasticity in my legs and core muscles so I can’t even put socks on. I have to return to bed during the day as a few hours of sleep at night aren’t enough (body clock destroyed in hospital by being awoken for SATS etc every four hours).I am following a Duolingo Spanish course as I woke from my coma speaking it yet had never studied it or visited Spain, Mexico etc.

I'm sorry you haven't had rehab. I had some in hospital but outpatient rehab was cancelled due to Covid-19. I suffer from fatigue as well. Ihope you get some Rehab very soon. Take care.

Hello Thanks for your reply. I didn't walk for 4 months in hospital as was in an induced coma for a while and then very weak. My planned outpatient rehab was cancelled due to Covid-19 My hypoxic brain injury was due to unknowingly my kidneys were failing as a result of Vascilitis an autoimmune disease, & had a cardiac arrest in the street, bystander CPR saved my life.. I would say my peech and mobility are worse now.. I had to shield 3 times due to being on immune suppressants and lost my job as a medical secretary. I do get depressed as to how 'different' I am now. Hoping to get some more help.

Hi, can't really give you much advice. I would suggest you contact Headway if you haven't already. Fatigue is the most common link across brain injury, better to acknowledge it, and work around it. Do talk to your GP and the rehab team about your emotional state, there are things that can help. 🍀
