51/2 years on...?

Hi all,

Iv not posted for a while (a few years) as life moves on but I have to share what’s happening...

ABI in may 2015 and life changed. It was the moods and personality change and the fact I just couldn’t function like I used to that was the problem.

Got over that and got on with life and rode bikes again but really having problems right now. Iv been feeling extremely tired and fatigued since having Covid in November 2021 but before Covid I always had snoozes at lunch time as the symptoms of my ABI caused this. But now it’s a different Level.

The last few years have been a battle physically but I’m pretty fit but just been struggling with sleep. I contracted COVID in November 2021 and since then I’m just so tired all the time. I don’t know if there’s any corilation with COVID and the ABI or if any one on here has is having a similar experience.

Thank you

Nick

Hi Nick. I believe fatigue is really common after any viral infection and many ex-Covid sufferers are left with the extended symptoms of 'Long Covid'. In June 2020 my grandson caught the virus and was pale, exhausted and losing weight for 3+ months after the virus had run its course.

Same when I had viral meningitis. After lumbar punctures showed my system had fought off the virus I still struggled to get though each day for months afterwards. I was prescribed steroids automatically on discharge from hospital as the fatigue was considered inevitable..

It's possible that we, with brain injuries, are more susceptible to prolonged after-effects, being less robust in the first place ? But I know of several folk who were previously fit and well who were wiped out for long periods afterwards.

Maybe ask your doctor's advice on going forward, although it's likely you'll be advised to take things slowly, eat healthily and take moderate exercise (much like after brain injury).

Look after yourself Nick ....and don't push yourself too hard 'til you're feeling stronger ! Cat x

Morning Cat, long time no chat. Thank you for your reply and that really helped.

I spoke to my doctor yesterday and he is going to do full bloods then enter me into the long COVID program so I’ll see how that goes.

It’s the fatigue that’s getting me usually so full of energy but just have none.

I'd be interested to hear what the Long Covid programme involves as my grandson was simply told to rest and take vitamin supplements. He's 13 & 1/2 now and, 18 months on, won't be coaxed back to riding his bike or to the park for footie by well meaning pals.

Brain injury alone for active people can be horribly limiting. Before my Bi I could walk for hours in the countryside & Derbyshire hills, but now the half mile to the shops & back is my limit. But Bi plus Long Covid is truly a double whammy...

You'll get there bit-by-bit though Nick ; I've got virtual money on it ! 😏 x

Sorry to hear this.I’ve had my TBI for just over 4 years, and fatigue still has a massive control over my life.

Did you get back to riding Motox bikes?

I previously had a 450, so powerful, I’d probably struggle to handle one now.

Hi plenty. Thank you for your reply and yes I did bet my ABI from MX. I used to ride a 450 too and a 250. We did it as a family as both my kids ride. Miss it so much as having risen for a bout a year. But we still ride and I did get back on the bike.

i had to sell mine. but i would like to have another go at it, or maybe a 250 trial bike more manageable for me now.

We did trials too but had to stop as can’t do everything. I ride on the road too BMW 1200 Adventurer which I love but it’s had to go after 2 years and 20k miles as I’m buying a flat.... I’ll get another though. It did affect me with fatigue and still does....

Hi,I'm down to ave 3 functioning hours a day, having loads of tests to try to work out why the fatigue suddenly got so bad. Nobody has even mentioned long covid!

Will you let us all know if you get any good tips/strategies?
