Has anyone got any foot drop advice? I feel like crying every time I look at my partners foot. Rehab have refused to splint it for 10 months regardless of this leading to foot drop and now it’s so stiff. I do stretches but I feel like I’m getting nowhere. Anyone have foot drop experience and managed to fix it? He can’t walk so I can’t imagine nhs doing FES to fix it. He can stand with people helping but this is now too painful for him to do because of the footdrop. Feeling frustrated and on my own

Foot drop advice
This isn't right. Have you spoken to PALS for support ? - they got things moving for my son's partner. After 18 months of neglect she got a phone call and saw a surgeon within days and her surgery slot came through 2 weeks later.
Also, you'll get good advice and support by phoning the Headway helpline on 0808 800 2244. (freephone - office hours). They can help you find the best route to physio for your partner. Hope you'll find the help you both need. Best wishes, Cat x
I'm not sure that foot drop is treated with splints these days? People I have known with this haven't been splinted, but they were expected to use the foot with the assistance of physio support, and exercises. It is a slow process, but the few I know, have improved to various degrees.
I agree if you feel care has been below standard, then PALS can help you take this forward. And Headway have a wealth of information, so give them a call, if only to have supported for you, and consider a day service for your partner.
Don't give up, stay strong 🍀
I was given a splint for mine but it made it worse and was really uncomfortable. I bought my own FES machine about 80 quid on amazon. I guess it depends on severity and as others have said it takes a lot of time and effort for things to improve like everything after abi! Good luck
Hi there. Just wondering what rehab professionals are involved with your partner.
I have severe foot drop used to use a night time splint over night in the early days.
I have tried various afos/splints whilst walking to help lift the foot I actually ended going to see a private orthotist and paid in the end As the nhs orthotist option was not right for me
Cat is right though if you don’t feel like your partner is getting the care he should be go to PALS
Is he still in rehab or as an outpatient ? My husband wears a leg brace that fits into the heel of the shoe . shoes and brace are made at the orthotics department of the hospital . But wasn’t offered for years later when he could walk a bit . I think you need to ask questions of the whys etc and if you are still concerned put in a complaint that will be the only way to get answers . Good luck
Slow concentrated walking: heel down first then toes. The AFO, ankle foot othrtodontics(?) shoe insert seemed to help by physically preventing foot drop. Try foot/ankle exercises. FYI.
