I quite often see individuals trialing Botox though I don’t actually know what it’s used for. Can anyone inform me please

It can help reduce headaches. I’ve had steroid injections instead and it did help but you can put on weight if done too often. Am considering Botox but very wary to be honest.

I have Botox injected into muscles in my arm and leg to reduce high tone/spasticity following my brain injury, for me personally I have noticed a big improvement in my limbsIt can be used for many different things it depends what it is being offered to you to treat, I feel you may definitely need a further discussion with your team so you are aware of the reason why it would be used in your case, I hope this helps

Take care

Cwar90 I was going to enquire about it for plumping up my left eye after stroke. Though if it’s not really used for that I may keep quiet. I was never sure why or how it was used. I’m intrigued you used it on muscles in your limbs. I have a rigid left leg, I wonder if it would have any benefits in that region. I may still ask. No one has ever suggested Botox so maybe I’m not a candidate for it though at the same time sometimes you have to do the asking I guess. Thank you for your reply 🙏

Hi, sorry to jump in. Botox is botulinum toxin (in high enough concentration it can be lethal). It can be used cosmetically, but as a caution general liability insurance doesn't cover its use for this, so avoid commercial practicioners.

You would need to talk to your stroke team to see if it would be of use or safe. It may relax muscles that pull on your face. But this would have to be repeated to maintain the effect.

With regards to your leg, again it needs discussion with your stroke team to see if relaxing muscles would help.

Do as much research as you can before even asking for treatment, and make sure it is licensed for the condition by the NHS.

Botox has many benefits including to reduce headaches, muscle spasms, sweaty armpits to name a few. It’s given once every twelve wks. I get it for headaches and it’s the only thing that truly works for me.
