Partner is 13 months post anoxic/hypoxic brain injury, and although a lot has gotten better from the early days... I’m still struggling with many changes that comes with the injury (personality changes, and other cognitive issues)
However my question is.... did anyone else with a brain injury take a while to gain insight into their injury? My partner is a very smart guy but I feel like many issues would be easier to solve or Get through if he just understood what was happening... he knows he has a brain injury but I believe that’s because of the many times we have repeated that to him (he does have short term mem loss, but can retain most information if repeated a few times)
Just looking for some hope here... feeling really down .. therapists believe it will eventually come but it’s very easy to lose hope

My Husband is post Hypoxic brain injury Two years and two months.
There have been incredible improvements since when he came home from rehab. Recently we spoke to someone we hadn't seen for a long time and she asked him how he was. He told her and explained he had short term memory problems. That was the first time he had ever explained his condition to anyone. I was very surprised.
Don't know if he will ever be able to control his income or travel any distance on his own but you live in hope.
Like you, I have down days but I try to think back to those dark early days and things don't seem so bad as they could have been.
