I've been walking out most days to (what was until a week ago) a deserted woodland area and the riverbank. Now it's a case of ducking & diving to maintain distance from other folks taking breaks from isolation...……. and heavily panting joggers.

My garden is normally my sanctuary either for sitting or working, but my next door neighbour, who has dementia, waits at his window and makes a beeline for me every time I go out out......and he's very touchy-feely, so I'm pretty much under house arrest. He does live with family though, so not alone.

But at least you and I have pleasant views, unlike folk in less scenic areas and with no gardens. But it's true, we're all getting stir crazy, square-eyed and increasingly paranoid. 🤔

Look after yourselves. Love to all... E. x

Yes, I do appreciate the peacefulness of where we live now, it's truly a lifesaver for me. We've just had a wander for five minutes, simply just to get out of the house if I'm honest. Didn't see a soul, it was lovely. My neighbours have been wonderful since we moved here, here's a true story for you, to cheer you up through the isolation...

Our house was built in 1934 and it had been lived in by the same family until the last surviving member (Bernard) died in 2018. 84 years and nobody other than Bernard's family had lived there, nobody. Now Bernard died in his mid eighties and our next door neighbour (Terry) became a good friend of Bernard and really looked after him is his latter years. He shopped for him (despite being 73 himself) cut the grass, tended to the garden and just generally made sure Bernard was OK...

The second time we paid a visit to the house to have a look around before we moved in, Terry popped over and introduced himself. Lovely fella, dry sense of humour, myself and Sharon clicked with him immediately. Now, the important part...

Sharon took it upon herself to cut the grass for the first time, with an electric lawn mower we already had, a 20 metre extension, you can picture the scene...

The next day Terry popped round, mentioned he'd seen Sharon cutting the lawn and what a job it had been. He then asked if we had a petrol lawn mower as it would make the task so much easier. We didn't. The next day, Terry came across, thrust £250 into our hands and insisted we bought one. We desperately tried to say no while appreciating the gesture more than he could possibly know. He then threatened to buy one himself and just leave it at the front door if we didn't accept.

The story needs no more words...

What a lovely story. Tell Terry from me (obv. from safe distance) that he's a true philanthropist !

I tried an electric mower years ago but the cable and the noise drove me nuts so I've used a basic push mower ever since.

Funnily enough, Helen phoned this morning asking which electric mower she should buy. I suggested a push one and got a 'You really must be joking' reply I couldn't resist accusing her of being Too posh to push ! 😆

I've ordered a Hyundai one ; she can have it for her birthday....

How're Josh, Holly and your mum coping with the curfew ? x

You do know it's not 1897 don't you! A push lawn mower indeed...

We're all doing ok, just a bit bored to be honest. You?

Same really.... It's an ideal opportunity to catch up with household jobs/repairs... but, like many, I can't muster the motivation right now.

Strange times for everyone ….. we just have to keep hoping for some positive signs before too long.

PS, I love my push mower ; it reminds me of my childhood, on summer nights when I fell asleep to the muted sounds of neighbours mowing....very reassuring. 😌 …….and it's good exercise ! x
