DVLA breakthrough

Hi all,

It’s been a while since I posted on here, although I have been popping on here and there!

I have been waiting for 12 months for the DVLA to make a decision regarding my driving licence and today I finally received a letter asking me to attend a driving assessment. This is the final part of the process and to be honest, I think it’s the most straightforward part. I have felt ready to drive for quite a while now.

The reason for posting is to make sure others don’t give up hope. I called the DVLA around three months back and they said it was being dealt with and “it shouldn’t be long”. I got sick of waiting and called them again two weeks ago and it seems too much of a coincidence that my letter arrived today!

Fabulous news Emma, I was kept waiting for nearly 2 years, & it was this year that I had my assessment on March. I sent the medical forms on July last year & heard nothing so I called them on September, they had my form from the GP but not the Optician. I wouldnt have sent one without the other, they said they'd look into it, so 3 days later a form arrived in the post, which led me to believe they lost it. Posted it, waited & waited. So I emailed them every 2 weeks, checking up, was told they had received it however no decision. So in the New year I made a complaint to the customer service accusing them of discrimination as I couldn't get a job due to not been able to drive. I then heard back within 24 hrs later, I would get a letter of decision. 5 days later, I then got a letter in the post I would receive correspondance of a driving assessment in my chosen area. Thankfully it worked out in the end & now I'm in Full time work again. So happy for you, the assessment is good & will work out for you, well done & good luck 🍀

Wow Emer congratulations. Like you I had to fight the system but I also live overseas so while I was passed to drive in Cape Town dvla took ages. The day I received my licence I went out and purchased a new car as it was a nightmare getting my daughter to school with no support

I have been waiting since June to get my license back, i have the same DVLA have now asked me to do a driving assessment. I need to be able to drive living in Cornwall, as i started a uni course in September and have to rely on family to get me to and from there. Bus services in Cornwall are not constant. x
