Third party to deal with personal affairs, advice needed.

Hi all, had my brain injury assessment report meeting yesterday, it seems I have quite a few problems especially with information processing and memory amongst others. I have had problems dealing with solicitors etc and have got into a real mess with them. I discussed this with the neuro-psychologist and was told to get a third party to deal with personal and formal issues as my condition will inhibit my own ability to do it properly. Has anyone else experienced this and has anyone used a third party to act on their behalf to deal with other parties. How do I go about this?

Thanks

you need an advocate.

phone your local adult services and ask them for the number. youre completely involved, they go with you to any meetings, ask questions for you and do things on your behalf with you there as far as possible or keep you informed of what theyve done and whats going on.

Cheers thank you very much

I have the same problems daily, to much info or too much going on and I go into "meltdown mode" my mother helps me with all of it as I can't cope on my own.

Hi Jason, thanks for the reply, my life issues are ok, for me it's dealing with officialdom. Are you ok mate, what's happening to make you go into meltdown mode, have been there and it's not good. It's up to you but I think you should vent it and maybe a few people will recognise the same issues and say how they have worked through it.

Seems like the same things as you

Hi, It seems like steve55's advice is worth a try, I'm going to try. I think it will help so that people ie. solicitors and doctors and the DWP etc can't take advantage of your current capacity. Stay well and don't let things build up, just rant it out on here we are all in similar situations and can act to help eachother.

Keep fighting
