Red lines

Hi all hope everyone is well, I just want to ask if anyone has experienced when opening your eyes after sleep seeing red lines or squiggles?

The only thing I’ve experienced are wavy lines like ripples sometimes after my coiling of aneurysm just goes away after about 15 minutes. Had MRI as all ok

I have occasional wavy bright lines in my line of vision and I’m told in my case it’s ‘painless migraines’? But if you have something that persists perhaps visit your GP for a check and peace of mind ? Worth getting it checked out

Hi Pammy,

This can be explained easily - the red squiggles could be blood in the eyeball vessels (it can also be seen if you rub your eyes when you wake up) I could be wrong (I have seen both these and black dots in my peripheral vision when I wake suddenly from a sound sleep) I think that unless you have pain or a very real concern that this may lead to something more serious - such as ocular cancer, then don't worry about it unless it doesn't go away or your sight degrades significantly it should all be OK

Yes I have sometimes when I'm blinking or starting a screen or bright light for too long, the NHS says it's common and is called floaters and flashes and advise it's better to see a optician than a gp
