Once again James a clear and palatable presentation of the facts.

There used to be a short public information film on stroke, illustrating the FAST principle ; it used to terrify me & I'd always reach for the mute button and look away. Then I had a SAH and suddenly.......................I became a grownup !

The TV version was a little too graphic and foreboding and I know others who wouldn't watch it. They should have used you, instead, for a calm but convincing message which folk would have paid attention to, rather than turning off.

Hope you're well (BI version of course). Cat x

James, thankyou for this clear and concise explanation : ) My partner suffered an ischemic stroke in 2002, after beta blockers were added to his meds for high BP. It took his speech and swallowing, now much improved but memory and emotion still somewhat affected. Most people know the word 'stroke' and associated disabilities but not the mechanisms behind it. x

That was very good. Interesting how much my accident ended up with stroke like after effects!

Thanks!

😉👍

Yes stroke is classified as 'acquired brain injury' same as tbi because the effects short and long term can be very similar. I sufferred right hand side weakness for a few months after mine.

Hi James,

I had an AVM (Aterivenious Malformation) that burst in the cerebellum. It was a massive bleed I nearly lost my life, but thankfully I have recovered reasonably well and maintain a good if different standard of living.

I am 8 years on living the new me at now 57 years young.

James the video is very good as are your descriptives a of stroke.

But, I for one wish we could get away from the idea that stroke just happens in the elderly and that stroke also (in some cases) causes "hidden brain injury"

When my problems happened and I was able to chat to people. I was determined not to say "stroke" because some people few "stroke " as an elderly condition and don't see the hidden brain injury some strokes can cause. (I am not taking away the severity/ importance of a stroke it's just people's perceptions of stroke and brain injury.) After Neuro psychologists input I understood my hidden brain injuries caused by the stroke and I/we (hubby) were able to pass that information onto friends/family, even my own doctor. James hope I've made sense here......

There are different forms of stroke I know that, but still people's perception doesn't take into consideration the brain injury side and that's what caused many many problems for me.

Maybe a video on the hidden brain injuries caused by some strokes. Minefield to explain I'm sure....But tip of the iceberg and all that......

Hope you and your children are coping, moving forward and taking on your new life as best you can 👍😃

Thanks for your message. Yes stroke can affect people of any age and it is the long term largely invisible effects which can be so hard to live with. I may do one on the 'hidden disabilty' but variation is so enormous it is very hard to say much with any certainty. We are all doing well than you, best wished to you

I had the same type of stroke in the same area. Mine was 3 years ago. My bleed was all a sudden and due to that I had a SCH stroke. I to like CindyBurton10 would love for you to do a segment on hidden brain injuries.

Thank you for doing what you do!

Prayers & Hugs,

Niyani
