hi again everyone
I have come across 'Work Choice' which helps disabled people back into work (even if they are working but at risk of loosing job because of disability). its at my local job centre.
it says they can help improve work skills - does anyone have knowledge of them and can they help people like me do you think?

What is happening with work that you feel you may lose job soon ? Hope you don't mind my asking. I have heard of Work Choice but had no experience yet. May be considering a visit to these, as don't qualify for much benefit wise since having to give up my cleaning job - not enough between partner and I to pay all the bills ! x

Work are giving me projects that i am feeling embarrassed to say i am struggling to do - they are so simple. I am also feeling guilty that i am not earning my wage there. The last thing i could bear with would be to be sacked. Couldn't take it. Just feel its best i make the move before them i suppose. Thats if i can find something else !
My husband is ringing the job center tomorrow to speak about Work Choice. I will not remember to tellyou, but if you remind me i will let you know if i learn anything.
But im guessing the rest of these good people on this site are probably one of the best resources for inside information.

I haven't had any experience of "work choice" because where I am the Job Centre has outsourced this to local organisatons. I do have lots of experience with the replacement services.
On the surface this seems to be an excellent idea where they can operate under some guidelines but be independant and not constrained by Government red tape. The firms also take on people from the unemployed ranks which again seems to be a good idea as they have experience and knowledge of what it is like being unemployed.
However, when you look at the services these organisations have to offer there isn't much and many just redirect you to another service provider. Many of the schemes set up to help people find work, are only there while the funding exists. I engaged with one organisation whom told me they were unlikely to get funding in 9 months time and they were all being made redundant. The person I was speaking to had been employed by 3 organisations like this in the last 5 years and had been made redundant each time.
That brings me onto the people, jsut because you have been unemployed for some time, doesn't necessarily put you in a position to understand peoples needs and abilities and especially the complex ones of people with a disabilities. One advisor told me I should have no probem geting a job as a cleaner despite having fatigue, mobility and balance problems! One organisation told me I was too overqualified to work locally and had I considered moving home and then going to see a local job finding scheme. However, the best was one place where they put me through a career finding tool which came up with "Fire fighter" and "ceramic tile designer" - a firefighter with balance problems and other BI related symptoms! However, the best option came from one advisor, "so you can do things, but slowly the sometimes get things wrong and have someone check your work and have to take regular naps during the day. I could get you work experience with the local council ?"
Not the most positive of responses hopefully someone else can give some advice
