Interesting read about milk

Yes. I knew that dairy products were not very good for you but that is virtually all I knew at the time, they were not good. And I knew that cattle was put into confinement and basically forced to produce milk, because my Mum watched a video of it on Youtube, I think, but I didn't know really about what this did to make the milk bad.

Never knew that pasteurising it basically removes all the goodness :-(

Been reading about margarine too (lord I need to get a good book) interesting how it's so bad for you, good job I don't like it. Glad I'm a butter girl ;-)

Margerine is gross. I'm glad I don't like it either. Marge contains trans fats and that is dangerous stuff as I'm sure you have read about.

naturalnews.com is a pretty good website and could fill you in on some info. I get newsletters from them as I can't be bothered to do much research haha.

wellnessmama.com is another good webite for health related foods :).

Oh for god's sake ; I've been eating marge all my life believing it to be a healthier alternative to butter.

I've always believed in 'All things in moderation' but now you're both scaring me !! :x

Sorry Cat but food these days, especially processed foods are not healthy for you.

Not to be nosy, but you ever had cardiovascular disease? If not, that is good. A large consumption can lead to it.

No Never (touch wood). But I do generally eat healthily. . . . . . .or so I thought. . . . . . . .with loads of fresh vegetables daily and no red meat.

I'm going to read up on margarine though because I've always understood it to be a healthier option than butter which is full of saturated fat, and also causes heart disease & blocking of the arteries.

Hi Cat,

It's not about what you eat but eating things in moderation, my aunty who has eaten butter and marge for most of her life but also eats a salad with every night meal and she is pretty healthy and she's 68, 69 this year, and still going strong,

I also eat marge only have butter when I go to my aunties house, so don't worry :)

Take care,

Yes that's always been my belief 'til today Siobhan !

I also believe that stress is a killer and that worrying too much about what you eat can be as damaging as a little too much of this or that. :o

Then there's that saying that 'A bit of what you fancy does you good'. . . . . . . . . which is probably not as frivolous as it might seem. xx

That's true about stress being a killer because since I was 16 I've suffered chest pains and since I was 13 I have suffered from palpatations and my old doctor said it's down to stress and if I don't destress more than I do then I could die as a result,

Because of everyone on here, helping me my stress has decreased and I'm not getting chest pains or palpatations half as much :)

These days I try to eat healthy as best as I can, exercise at least 3 times a week but I do have days where I just eat things like chocolate, but I got my collestral (can't spell it, basically fat in your blood) checked a few months back and mine is really low even though I don't eat the best some times.

Take care,

Siobhan x

I don't eat greatly healthily but have eaten More healthily since September, last year.

I try not to consume as much refined sugar now. Refined sugar is classed as a poison. Look at all these fast food restaurants, McDonald's (or CrapDonald's), most if not all of there food contains sugar which leads to obesity, health issues, even death. Sugar is in most foods now.

A guy called Ancel Keys buggered up the saturated fat thing. Most people fear fats but there is good fats and bad fats, saturated fats are good. Just don't consume too much of it.

It depends on the farm though, because I used to live next to this farm and their cows both male and female was out and about eating grass on the acre or so that they own most of the time, and was only put in for the milk but you could buy fresh milk from them.

yeah you're right, anything in moderation really.

Apparently the soft butter (spreadable from the fridge) has got the same nastys that are in marg.

There's always gonna be something bad about the majority of things unfortunately.

take almost any thing to excess and it can cause you harm, and likewise in moderation some naught but nice can be just nice.

i'd also caustion against taking any advice that can't back it up with some sort of evidence, looks a bit like a lot of sport science stuff, which can be proof by assertion, ie just something some one has said and is now repeated. regardless of merit.

foods go in and out of fashion, what is last decades wounder food is today avoid at all costs and round it goes...
