David why?

What has happened to make you say this today?

I think many of us have felt like giving up when things get hard, but we keep on keeping on going, not giving in.

PLEASE PLEASE DON'T I KNOW OUR LIVES AFTER BI ARE TOUGH BUT WE ALL HAVE STRENGTH WE DON'T KNOW WE HAVE.

I ONCE SAT ON THE SETTEE WITH A BLANKET OVER MY HEAD WORKING OUT HOW TO JUMP OFF THE WHITE CLIFFS OF DOVER ( I LOVE KENT) WITHOUT LEAVING A NASTY MESS FOR SOMEONE TO HAVE TO CLEAR UP. THIS IS NOT A JOKE, I AM DEADLY SERIOUS. I HAD A CAT AT THE TIME & FELT I COULDN'T LEAVE HIM TO AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE & THAT STOPPED ME.

THEN THE NEURO PRESCRIBED ANTIDEPRESSANTS WHICH HELPED ME FUNCTION AGAIN. THEY'RE NOT A GOLDEN KEY OR EVEN SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE BUT THEY (OR SOMETHING ELSE) MAY HELP.

A REALLY GOOD TALK WITH YOUR NEURO MAY THROW UP SOME IDEAS YOU HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF.

PLEASE TALK TO US IF YOU FEEL DESPERATE AGAIN.TELL US (ME) NOT TO REPLY IF YOU DON'T WANT ANY MESSAGES & I WILL JUST LISTEN (OR RATHER READ)

David,

I'm afraid I'm not the touchy-feely type (combination of genetics, childhood experiences and head injury) and what I'm hoping to say will undoubtedly seem unsympathetic even though it's not meant to be.

Should you succeed in killing yourself by not taking your medication, the "Tory-led Government" would not be "The" direct cause of death - you would be. To be more accurate, the totality of your situation would be. Any government action may be the icing on the cake, but there's almost certainly a lot more that's the real driver and you need look at the whole. If you're going to kill yourself, at least know why you're really doing it rather than singling out one factor that may just happen to be the one that emotionally shines brightest at the moment. It wasn't the final straw that broke the camel's back it was all the ones that were already there as well.

A better option is to take a metaphorical deep breath and get through where you're at - and then add your continuing voice to efforts to make better policy. Yes, I know it's not easy and I know it hurts, but it's doable.

Ring Headway and let them help you get through this immediate crisis. Then see what you, they and any other parties can do to relieve the terrible strain you live under and to make life more pleasurable.

Best Wishes.

PS. The Government being Tory-led is irrelevant. Don't think it would make any significant difference to Government Policy if the Lib-Dems, Labour, Communists or Monster Raving Loony Party were in charge. They'd all end up having to balance the books and doing things that badly affected people's lives when they shouldn't have.

interestingly i recall that Benefits and Work website were warning that the then Labour Gov. were going to alter the benefit system

Doesn't matter who is in power the same thing has happen.

Nay Sayers jumped up and down about scrounges getting free cars and free money. The papers had so many folk who had claimed fraudulently about the state of their health that it seemed we were all tarred with same brush.

Can you imagine being given dla for life! Shock horror! But people forget, if you are born with legs or arms missing, they are not going to grow back, if you are paralysed in an accident then there is very little hope of recovery, if you are deaf/blind/mute there is no cure.

So now they pay people to test, retest, test, retest and test again just to make sure you didn't get better. And it cost a fortune in admin and wages etc.

Don't get me wrong I'm aware that some people are lucky enough to make recovery. They should be reviewed periodically, ie every 2-5 years till it plateaus. It can also be done to give more help should people be unlucky enough to get worse

the changes have been hard for all of us. But you just can't give up, stop meds etc, all that will give you is a ticket back to hospital.

After my accident, if that on its own was not bad enough to contend with, my other half had to give up his job to care for me and the family. So then we had gone from £60,000 a year income to £80 a week. Insurances paid out for half a motgage because he had stopped work 'voluntarily' , job centre said no help for same reason so we had to sell our home and move into rented, we could not get social housing, so we went into a house I dont even remember. The owners put that up for sale and we were homeless. Unable to afford the deposits credit checks deposits etc. because any money we had from house sale paid off any debt like car loans etc. then to pay living expenses, we still had not been introduced to benefit.

We ended up moving over300 miles into homeless accommodation. Move paid for by charity, and finally a welfare team sat down and sorted out benefits.

Guess what? We earned too much In previous year to qualify for tax credits, we did get housing and council tax benefit. I was turned down for dla, although I was getting Incap.

Welfare team fought on my behalf and I ended up at tribunal who awarded in definate dla. That allowed my hubby to get carers and when the new tax year came we were quids in finally.

Don't give up, don't give in because you might just be ok.
