Just the skull? My GP said around a year for everything to nit together and smooth off, though the fracture would be closed a fair bit sooner than that.

I can't feel the line any more 8 months on, though I can feel it on cold wet days, which is a odd feeling...

I would say that depends upon a number of factors, such as your age, fitness level, general health and normal recovery times.

As far as I can remember, it took about a year to heal to an acceptable, general-use state. I'd split my skull in half down the middle and had a smaller fracture on the left-hands side, I was 12 years old, fit as a pack of butchers' dogs, and I was up and walking about a month earlier than I should have been given the way I'd fractured my hips and pelvis. The ridge across my nose and down the centreline was noticeable and sensitive (in a funny kind of way) for several years (I can't remember how long). I'd say I was a pretty ideal example of how long it takes to recover structurally. Neurologically ... sadly, that's an entirely different matter.

It generally takes human tissue 12 months to mature, so by that stage your fracture should have healed as much as its going to naturally. However, sometimes fractures don't heal properly because of a lack of blood supply caused by damage to the blood vessels surrounding the fracture site in the injured area. Sometimes cartilage is formed instead of bone which is soft and spongy for that reason.

Years later I can still feel the fracture line and a small part that is spongy, and I was very young at the time of my injury. I don't know how well it healed.
