Had my MRI scan there, my first, now have to wait on the results.I did see some of the images, but they mean nothing to me.Just have to wait on the results.
Has anyone else had a head scan? and know what the consultants look for?

I see my rehab consultant in a month and intend to ask him to explain where the damage is in my brain, I have lesions, these show up as white patches, which is where the brain cells have died and connections can't be made by them but pathways have to be made round, if possible , these areas. These lesions were caused by the swelling in my brain, not an external trauma or a bleed, toxins are released by the brain cells in some instances, these toxins kill the brain cells.
I can't change anything but I'm hopeful that if I know which areas are affected it will help me understand better just why I have the limitations I have and what I have to concentrate on doing to facilitate my recovery, well the best I can do xxxxx
I HAVE HAD A FEW. I DON'T UNDERSTAND A LOT ABOUT THEM BUT THE NEUROSURGEON SHOWED ME THE WHITE PATCHES FROM THE BLEED IN MY FRONT & TEMPORAL LOBES. THERE WERE ALSO A FEW MARKS LEFT BY THE
BLOOD HAD SWISHED AROUND IN MY HEAD.
I FIND THEM REALLY INTERESTING BUT I HATE THE ONES WHICH SHOW YOUR EYES STICKING OUT OF THE FRONT OF YOU HEAD FOR SOME REASON.
I MENTIONED ON ANOTHER THREAD THAT I HAVE MY CT SCAN IMAGES. WHEN I LOOK AT THEM THEY FREAK ME OUT.
NORMALLY NOT SQUEAMISH BUT THESE ......
I love my images! fascinated by them. Generally ares of bruising and bleeding show up white, they are useful to see the extent of injury and where it is. However, as we all know outcome is hugely variable after bi so don't read too much into it. I showed a neuro professor one of my images with a very clear area of damage on and said "if this came across your desk what would you think?" His reply was interesting "You can't tell anything from a single structural image"
I HAD A CEREBRAL ANGIOGRAM & ALL I COULD SEE WAS SOMETHING THAT LOOKED LIKE A ROAD MAP WITH A FEW BLOBS ON IT. DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THAT ONE AT ALL.
I NEVER HAD A CT JUST MRI & ANGIOS
I had mine over a year ago and just requested and received a cd with the results a few days ago. I had encephalitis in the right temporal lobe but looking at the scans and knowing all this still makes it damned hard to fathom from the scans. I agree with Kirk5w7 about understanding more about the injury does help understand about the problems we all have. I should be starting a rehab program in September but prior to the confirmation it did look like the funding wouldn't be approved and I know from my investigations that they do run a module on understanding brain injury so I started with my usual full on attitude to learning everything about my injury and come to terms with it and start to deal with it.
But to answer your question "what are they looking for?" hmmm? white and swollen was a phrase I remember.
Certainly requesting your results, both written and usual, is a positive step to make
An mri scan will show macroscopic brain injury but not microscopic brain injury according to my neurologist.
In my case the MRI scan showed advanced atrophy of the brain but they don't know why.
He said my brain is ten years older than it should be for my age.
