I'm wondering what you've tried already. For instance have you tried ibuprofen or an over-the-counter migraine treatment ? Has your GP prescribed nothing which helps ?

I'm only allowed to take codeine/paracetamol which are useless so I have many lost days of waiting for the headaches to subside..........usually three or four days at a time.

I do sympathise & also wonder whether you've ever had any specialist opinion for this problem ?

Hi Cat,

Do you have seperate codine and paracetamol or the combined? The reason I ask is that I am prescribed 30mg tablets of codine and 500mg paracetamol as seperate tablets. This I find works better (for me anyway) as I can take the codine without having too much paracetamol.

Some headaches seem to go with just codine and others seem to go with just paracetamol many don't go at all. I also have tramedol but have only taken one tablet since May this year as its side effects are horrible.

Hi Mick. I mostly have the combined ones but, to be honest, nothing really works. I've tried combining the 30mg codeine with separate parecatemol but with no success.

Years ago, I was given a preventitive drug which I took each day, regardless of headaches, but it didn't work & I abandoned it after 5/6 months.

Most efficient remedies contain ibuprofen which I'm allergic to.

Even morphine doesn't help but diazepam does take the edge off the nausea............pretty horrid business all told !

After 20 years of migraine I was referred by the gp to a consultant a few years ago, who prescribed a once-a-day preventative tablet. But since I had concussion this year, its not working. Might be worth asking. and am taking ibuprofen and imigran as required. Best to remember nothing works if taken too often.

Not what you're looking for?
