No that isn't natural, Blue. It could be a direct result of your head injury, which can cause excessive sleeping (hypersomnia), or it could be a side effect of the medication you are taking..........especially the anti-depressants.

Talk to your doctor/s about it. I have sleep problems but nowhere near as severe as this. You need to get this sorted to claim back some quality of life. It's just guesswork but It's possible that the right anti-depressant could treat both your sleeping problem and your depression at the same time.

Good luck with this............I'm sure that addressing this issue would improve your daily life immensely. cat x

i am with cat here, it could just be the anti depressant, people react differetly to medication, and as there are lots of types of anti depressats the doctor may be able to prescribe one that has less of an effect on sleep

but i believe you should get to your doctors nd get it checked out

what reasons dis they give for taking DLA away?

I'm sorry things are so rough at the moment and I also would like to know why your DLA has been refused.

Firstly I think you need to see your doctor for a change of anti-depressant. Now you've mentioned Sertraline it makes sense that you're sleeping so much. I know people react differently to these drugs but I was a mess when I took them and I've heard bad reports from other people.

Secondly, have you tried contacting the Headway helpline ? I've seen dramatic changes in certain people after they've got involved with members of the Headway team. They could probably help with getting your benefit sorted. It's 0808 800 2244 if you don't already know it. Really,Duncan, I think you should phone them and start getting some quality of life for yourself.

I think you'll have to wait until Monday now to phone them. xx

I've not had a head injury ( both my parents have had SAH though) but about 3 years ago I was on a low dose anti depressant, I stuck at it for a good while but felt so can't be bothered doing anything ( and put weight on!) I ended up weening myself off them. I know that's not the answer for you but I really would consider talking to your doc / consultant or Headway as a change of medication may help considerably, don't put up with it and don't be fobbed off, good luck Duncan x

Sorry for what you have gone through, it all sounds horrible :(

It certainly looks like the medication isn't helping your fatigue, I tried anti-depressants for about a week, but then I realised that I had an actual reason to be unhappy. I don't think that medication will cure that, and as you say, they make you feel so out of it, so you physically cannot start to put a life back together. I started seeing a therapist instead, it works wonders, they give practical advice for change, rather than just masking the problem.

I know it's hell, but you're also stuck with it, and I feel that medicating it will only delay dealing with it, and they make you so tired. I think that if you get off the meds you'll feel better in the long run :) (and you might get a good sleeping pattern going)

Best of luck to you.

I really think you should be looking at the sertraline as a major contributor to the tiredness and headache. There are many alternative anti-depressants ( I've had Paroxetine for many years) and there will be one which works for you.

Please talk to your doctor, Duncan. this is something he/she can easily address.

I certainly wouldn't consider any changes without your doctor's advice.

Also, why don't you give the headway helpline a ring today 0808 800 2244. These two small steps could make such a difference to your life.

I understand how extreme tiredness affects motivation but you need to find the strength from somewhere to get the help you need. x
