I am a 55 year old female and I am waiting for my biopsy results. Nobody in my family has this disease.
This is my first outbreak. Did anyone else get it so late in life and did not inherit it?

I've always been told that HHD is a genetic disease. Is it possible that one of your family members had it but went undiagnosed? I've had it for over 25 years and my father and Aunt both have it. I think it is very common for people to have it and it has not been diagnosed properly since a lot of medical professionals have never heard of it. I pray your biopsy is negative so you won't have to deal with this for the rest of your life. Good Luck!
From my research into this disease that I have.Hailey Hailey is a genetic disease that affects the # 3 chromosome that deals with the calcium pump part of your skin .In other words the concrete the holds our skin cells together. So because we don't have the right make up to hold the skin cells together then we get areas in that part of the skin that get red sore and everything else we deal with.( This is how I understand it. In just trying to research my disease ) a doctor could explain it a lot better than myself. But to help with your question I have 4 sister and two brothers and the way it was explained to me it depends on who's dormant genes we carry .Our mothers or fathers and which one was the carrier of the mutant gene.Mine was my mother so out of 7 children even boy had the gene and has Hailey Hailey but only one sister had a little of the disease( not a severe chase like the guys . I hope I helped you some .Again this is how I understand what I have looked and been Told over the years .
