Hello Lisa
Graves is an autoimmune disease and as so, it' s for life.
Please get and keep all your blood test results for future reference and confirm your diagnosis with positive TSI/TRab antibodies in your blood test results.
You will need to educate yourself on health issue as it seems Graves is poorly understood.
Your body is running fast, you are hyper, and so there is a very good chance your vitamins and minerals will be low, as not enough time has elapsed for you to digest your food well.
If, through medication, your body is slowed down too much the same applies as your body will now not be able to break down your food to utilise the vitamins and minerals.
So, whilst on medication it's a question of finding some balance, and this is not easy.
It will be a good idea to get the full thyroid and vitamin and minerals blood check as detailed on this amazing website and post all your results, with the ranges for experts better than me to suggest supplements where necessary.
I read there is currently a vaccine being trialled for the Graves antibody so, hopefully your condition may not be for life, but there are no results yet.
Elaine Moore's book - Grave Disease a Practical Guide is excellent - there is also a website USA based but very informative : this lady has the disease :
Dr Barry Durrant Peatfield's book - Your thyroid and how to keep it Healthy is another goto
This man has hypothyroidism and the book is so relevant and a relatively easy read.
You may have some genetic predisposition to Graves disease, probably a generation away.
Graves is said to thrive on stress and anxiety and doesn't present in any two people the same, hence the medical knowledge is sparse and you will have to become your own best advocate. Some people have achieved remission by diet and life style changes.
There is a lot to take in and understand - there's no quick fix at the moment.
