Just wanted to check quick cook rice ... - Gluten Free Guerr...
Just wanted to check quick cook rice is ok (labelling doesn't say gluten free) and marmalade (doesn't say gluten free.)
Hi anne.
Coeliac's like myself often have a dairy intolerance - I know I do. One reason is that there is damage to the villi in the gut. I can't speak for other types of gluten intolerance though.
The first thing I think you should do if you do get a diagnosis of coeliac in a few days time, is to sign up to the Coeliac U.K.'s website. It has a members only area giving information on the types of food it is okay to eat. It is not 100% accurate but it is a good place to start for a newbie.
To help you in the short term, as far as I am aware marmalade is normally okay to have. As for the scrambled eggs if you had them made with milk, this could be the reason for your bad tum (rather than the eggs themselves).
Hope this helps you.
At first, many newly diagnosed coeliacs have a problem with dairy but this is often temporary. Marmalades and jams are fine as long as they haven't been cross contaminated by others. As for rice, some of the quick cook, usually flavoured, contains gluten. The Uncle Ben's website tells you which are ok, though I find it confusing to remember which I can have. The Tilda range are all gluten free and really nice. Joining coeliac uk is useful and so is their facebook page, where there are loads of people offering advice and recipes.
Anne-Gussy there is no way we can approve food as GF over the web without more details. As ingredients change all the time you are best telephoning the companies for up to date info. Some jams and marmalades contain gluten - good quality ones usually don't. Eggs are not dairy.
Was the 'toast' you had normal gluten bread?
How do you think you are gluten intolerant?
You need to discuss this with your GP (whilst you still eat gluten) and they can then run a series for tests on you including those for Coeliac Disease.
Being a vegetarian you will also need your B12 levels checked. You can only consume B12 from animal products and if you are deficient in B12 it can make you feel very ill.
hiya i have been celiec for 18 months and carnt have eggs they leave a foul taste in my mouth no reaction though thank goodness and i stick to boiled rice or the microwave ones good luck x
