Hi Barny, There may be a variety of reasons that you have had this reaction. I don't think it is related to coeliac disease though - I eat between one and four bananas each day.
Are you perhaps allergic to Latex?
"Latex allergy and food
Around half of all people with latex allergy have allergic reactions when eating particular foods, including avocado, banana, chestnut, kiwifruit, passionfruit, plum, strawberry and tomato. This is because some of the proteins in latex that cause latex allergy are also present in these fruits. Common symptoms include tingling in the mouth, stuffy nose, itchy eyes and wheezing.
A person who is allergic to the manufacturing chemicals in latex will not have allergic reactions to these foods."

As well as this possibility, you may find that you have a disruption with your digestion through fructose or a fructose intolerance. This is likely if you have any indication of a leaky gut.

Just as a matter of interest, which type of bananas are you eating? There are quite a few on the market now. Some originate from Africa, some from Brazil, Costa Rica, West Indies .. etc Aldi still sell the original British favourite of Cavendish, from the West Indies .. they are small and sweet and seedless and personally I think, the most gentle on the tummy.
hiy lyncat thanks for advice and yes the bannanas were sml funny you should say stuffy nose and wheezing had noticed that too but has gone now and i carnt eat kiwi or strawberry eather since have been celiec have been well now for 2days only eat apples and melon lol its so nice to have advice thanks xxx
If you are having severe reactions go and see your GP for proper NHS allergy testing. I had this and discovered my oral allergy reactions to bananas and kiwi were also linked to a latex allergy. I've seen this as a common issue in many coeliac forums.
Often symptoms improve with age. However you should mention any stomach reactions to your Dr in case something else is causing them as it's easy to add 2+2 = 5 instead of 4.
