Please can somebody tell me what we can now drink - in the way of spirits, wine & champagne, sherry, port, & so on-or even where & how to find out! Thank you.

you can drink all but beer and lager. I have a reaction to whiskey but that's just me. You do need to watch out for soft drinks that are on tap because they can sometimes be contaminated. It's easier to drink well rather than eat well at parties. Oh and a tip...eat before a party or take stuff with you, they are notoriously poor places for us to eat. Have fun x

I will have to agree with the comment above, anything but beer and lager and whiskey.

Whiskey is usually made from barley and sometimes wheat etc. So stay away from these!

I usually have vodka, rum (mojitos) and wine.

Enjoy! :) x

Also watch out for cocktails - often they will use some liquids that contain barley, or some unusual mixers. I always find a good cocktail bar is happy to confirm what is GF - and watch out for them adding Marshmallow or Cherries that you don't know are GF or made in a GF place on the top of the glass too.

Whatever you do avoid the stupid trend for liquid Nitrogen in drinks in bars - that poor student nearly died earlier this week from drinking one of those.

Do bear in mind that if you are recently diagnosed alcohol will be inflammatory and can be hard to digest. You will probably find you can't drink like you used to and will get drunk quicker so do make sure you line your stomach well with some good GF carbs before you set out for any big party nights out ; )

I have trouble with sulphites too, so I tend to drink expensive champagne ... tastes great and I never suffer. Take along some GF crackers in your purse and some dried fruit and nuts if you can tolerate them. Having food with you can prevent you from drinking on an empty stomach and suffering the consquences. If you can, drink a glass of water after each alcoholic beverage ...make sure you drink one glass of water before bed and take some vitamin C. Your body will thank you in the morning.

Thank you everybody-but a while ago, people were posting about wine being fined with wheat, in these post BSE days, & also old barrels having been caulked with flour paste, so we should only even have wine which had never been in barrels, or something like that! I've been quite ill a few times having had wine-but who knows whether it was the wine, or something else! Just being very sick & feeling ill. I also do agree, I can't drink a lot at all without getting very silly, then falling asleep! However I thought it was just getting old!

ad a gluten free beer starter pack from gluten-freeshop.co.uk for Christmas. 12 different gf beers and lagers in the pack. I liked 8 out of the 12 - so a good ration. Ambar and cans of Saxon were the best. Cheapest too!
