Doctor Bob Anderson has worked so hard for many years to get this far. I really do hope that this trial/s will work very well for him and for us.
Can you imagine how much money he would have invested already to get this far.
Initially I thought that there are other more debilitating autoimmune diseases to concentrate on, but then I came across the research showing a link between maternal autoimmune diseases and autism ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/195...
Any reduction in autoimmune diseases would be a good idea, but personally I don't think I want to go back to eating bread.
Coeliac's a nice easy autoimmune disease to try and develop a vaccine because we know the antigen (i.e. the gluten-tissue transglutaminase complex) and we know a reasonable amount about the pathogenesis. Other autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid are so complex, we don't even really know what self-antigens are being targets or what components of the immune system are leading to the damage.
Plus coeliac is common and often affects rich Caucasians. Another reason why pharmas are pushing for a vaccine in this particular disease.
While this undoubtably would make life so much simpler and cheaper and cause alot less pain for CD sufferers, I honestly don't think I could bring myself to go back to eating anything containing gluten. I've been GF for 21 of my 23 years and I just can't imagin putting a slice of bread upto my mouth and taking a bite, I'll probably just stay GF!
