My GP got me to join Ceoliac UK, which is a charity as well as seeing consultant and dietician. CK state that your immune system is shattered until you colon mends. Nutrition for the body is takin in through the colon, it also can cause temporary lactose intolerance, as the colon can't deal with the stuff in the milk. I would seriously recommend Ceoliac Uk. You get a 'bible' each year, it tells you all the shops and the safe stuff that you can buy form them to keep you well. It's well handy when you are just too tired to read labels! I didn't know that some of the 'supermarkets own' cheapy cereals are gluten free and safe for us. Mostly they are rice snaps, honey nut cornflakes coco snaps and frosted flakes. It says 'barley' as part of the ingredients and normally we can't have that. But in these cereals the barley extract is 20 parts per million, so is safe for us (that is in the book too). I am super hyper allergic, I can't have codex wheat or any sort of oats either, so i know from experience that these cereals are safe. Honey nut cornflakes, yum.

LOVE honey nut c/flakes and eat them as a snack in the evenings--the G/Free biscuits are so full of fat! and to fill me up I need too many of them:)

Since being diagnosed 11 years ago I find that I am very susceptible to picking up stuff like flu bugs etc and it takes a lot longer to recover. I always have a flu jab and the surgery nurse has told me that ceoliacs do have poor immune systems. I take echinacea when sick to help improve my immune system.

hi yes i have the same problem but they think you are pulling a fast one at work when you say you had the sickness & tummy upset for a week as it really floors you, they say you should be back in 24 hours (i wish)

Though the Coeliac UK's 'bible' is great, you have to be careful because sometimes a brand of food you get can be listed but if a previously gf product says new improved recipe, they could have added a gluten ingredient. I have found this a few times with ready made meals. It's also important to check Ceoliac UK monthly for any new additions or deletions of products.
