Hi all , sorry if this is a daft question , I have recently had an nhs coeliac screen and I have had my results appear on my app recently but I am not able to speak to a Dr until next week, the test results only show IgA and classes 0.80 - 2.80 as normal . mine has come back as Abnormal at 3.38 g/l . Does any one know what this means ? am I likely to be ceoliac or does this mean this I am sensitive to gluten and should reduce? btw I also have hashimotot thyroiditis
regards Ian

I’m sorry to tell you this, however looking at those blood results, it seems highly likely that you will get given a diagnosis of Coeliac Disease soon.
Unfortunately if you have one autoimmune issue (hashimotos) it puts you at higher risk of having others.
If you live in the uk, you will probably be referred for further testing - so DO keep gluten in your diet for the time being. Use this current period to eat your favourite gluten foods - so you have no unfinished business with them in the future.
Wise advice from Legalbirdy, enjoy your favourite gluten meals, before you have to stop eating them altogether. I was diagnosed with a very under active thyroid before I got my coeliac diagnosis, and it’s true, that if you have one autoimmune disease, you have an increased chance of getting other autoimmune diseases. If you are going to have further tests, it’s important you don’t stop eating gluten before them as it is very painful going back on to gluten once you’ve given it up. I hope all goes well for you.
P.S. Look on the bright side, you can still eat pizza once you are gluten free, just not the ones you eat now.
Thanks for your kind words, I was hoping as it was only slightly over the normal range it might not mean that I am coeliac , but maybe better trying to reduce gluten, as I have hashimotos many people find giving up gluten helps them so went gluten free for just under 6mths( around 2 years ago) , as I didn’t notice a difference I then reintroduced gluten and didn’t notice any illeffect I thought I mustn’t have ceoliac
It would be a really bad idea to reduce your gluten intake just yet.
If you get referred to hospital, you will need to be on a normal level of gluten for any potential endoscopy to be effective.
If you do get referred, remember that ‘choose and book’ can significantly reduce your waiting time (and in some cases this can include accessing a private hospital if there are no suitable NHS facilities that can see you within the maximum waiting times), so exercising this right can be very helpful. I did this and it saved my sanity. The maximum time you are expected to wait for an NHS appointment is 18 weeks. Fortunately my wait was only 8 weeks, however it felt much longer.
Obliged, the the reason why mStill thinking all will be ok is that 3 years ago I had VERY similar results and the doctor said it was fine and likely to just a result of inflammation ???
Your result isn't definitive enough to confirm coeliac at this stage. The next step is a referral to the gastroenterology team, who will do a biopsy to check whether this is a false positive or you do indeed have coeliac disease.
Keep eating gluten at least twice a day, every day, until you are tested. Do not remove gluten from your diet until then.
Hi all thanks for your replies, good news my doctor called yesterday to say I am not coeliac, my abnormal result is likely due to inflammation from the hashimotos and the other test for tissu Iga which she said was the most important one ( which didn’t show on my app) didn’t show positive .
