I'm thinking of joining. Anyone else joined? Is it worth the money?
Coeliac UK.: I'm thinking of joining... - Gluten Free Guerr...
Coeliac UK.
I joined as soon as I was diagnosed. You can phone them if you need help which I did as my doctor wouldn’t prescribe any gluten free products. It is only a few pounds, you get newsletters and they tell you what is available in your area. If you use Amazon a lot you can go onto Smile Amazon and coeliac UK will get a % of what you spend. If you can afford it join.
I find it very good value. Very informative with a good newsletter to keep us up to date. We'll worth the money.
Very good organist. Well worth joining - great contacts with local groups.
Definitely, I joined on my diagnosis in 1990, there was very little information available then and the good old interweb was not readily available to me. The Food List they send you proved invaluable and accompanied me on every shopping trip. It is well worth the fee especially now as I pay the reduced concession fee as an OAP !
Hi. I'm aware this is a slightly old post, but I'm wondering how you find the foods on the Ceoliac UK list? I've posted on here about finding the foods not safe at times, and wondering what your experience has been with their food list?
Good to join. Not only do they provide what the others say, but they fight our cause medically, in supermarkets and restaurants. Money well spent.
Yes
We joined, and I think it's worth it. You can download an app, which has a barcode scanner you can use to identify safe foods in the supermarket. There's a map, which you can use to find user recommended restaurants.
We do attend the local group as well, which sets up a few meals a year. They often have talks and members bring along food to share (it's great getting to eat, knowing the person that's prepared it has made it safely!)
Are you aware that food on their list can contain trace amounts of reactive substances. So you still have to test by eating.
Probably the biggest chooser is where you already shop.
Hi. By reactive substances are your referring to traces of gluten?
Great responses, thanks guys and gals, i'll be joining.
very well worth the money, Im old enough now for concession and its only an annual fee....but I have been member for years
Hi Sotonowl. I'm aware this is a bit of an older post, but I'm endeavouring to find out how you have found the Coeliac UK food list? Have you followed it, and how have you found the recommended foods in terms of 'safeness'?
Sorry for late reply. I haven't been diagnosed and doubt I ever will but I'm sure I have celiacs disease.
As for the Coeliacs website I've found it to be a great source of information. The app they have is a move in the right direction but there's still a lot of items that the app doesn't recognise, hopefully over time as they update the database this will only get better.
Sounds good. I've not used the app, but sounds like it's a step in the right direction. Not nice floundering around in the no-man's land of not knowing if it is/isn't coeliac, but if your health has improved without gluten it's always a reasonable guess that it is. Thanks for replying.
