hi does anyone have trouble with hair... - Gluten Free Guerr...
hi does anyone have trouble with hair loss i was diagnosed cd about 4 years ago
Hi queeny, I used to, but since going GF my hair has grown back thicker. Maybe you should ask your doctor to test your nutrient levels. Good luck!
Hi Queeny
I am still losing hair, can I ask do you mean in patches or is it coming out all over your head?
Mine is all over my head and I usually end up with a heap of hair on the side of the shower when I wash mine. I don't know whether its worse in summer. I had hoped that my hair would grow thicker since going GF as I remember when I was younger several hairdressers commented that I had loads of hair, but it was fine. I have been GF for around 2.5 years now and I haven't noticed my hair improving. I have had my vitamin levels as well as thyroid checked and been told that they are ok.
My hair was coming out all over leaving a small clump in the plughole after washing it... that turned out to be my iron levels (or lack of them).
But I think that deficiencies of all kinds can cause hair loss - I think mine still comes out a little more easily than it used to, but it's not enough for me to take it to the doctor at a problem.
I had a problem with hair loss a few years ago. It was caused by seborrheic dermatitis. I got it under control by cutting out sugar, and using Head & Shoulders (it's the zinc in it that is the active ingredient). There are lots of possible causes, hopefully your doctor can advise you.
Hi Queeny Yes I am sufferering from hair loss and have been diagnosed with lichen planopilaris and am being treated through a dermatologist for it
Hi Queeny, Have you had your thyroid levels checked as a precaution? Auto-immune thyroid disease often accompanies CD and non-CD Gluten Intolerance and symptom is hair-loss, especially if it's affecting eyebrow growth as well.
I suffered from hair loss with thyroid disease and later on with Non-CDGI. Now I only use organic shampoos and natural hair dyes like organic henna/Indigo (important to be wheatgerm, paraben and SLS free) and hair has all grown back and is very healthy.
As so many things can affect hair/scalp guess it's down to eliminating causes one by one and lots of patience, but think all the advice is worth working through. Best wishes, Rita
Hi Queeny, Yes i did suffer terrible hair loss, frightening when it falls out in handfuls and you are afraid to comb it. Even my eyebrows and eyelashes used to fall out. I have since been taking ferrous sulphate suppliments (Iron tabs 200mg high dosage) and it no longer falls out. Takes about 3 months to kick in tho. Hope it works for you too.
