My husbands case is similar to many others, several doctors diagnosing various acne, exotic tropical conditions, psoriasis, allergies etc this lasted around six months. When he finally persuaded his GP to send him to a dermatologist, at this time the whole lower part of his body and some other patches had developed into blisters around the size of his little finger nail. The dermatologist was convinced he had pemphigus, later he had a skin biopsy which diagnosed DH. Dapsone dried the blisters up within a month, but gave him the usual side effects. He is in a profession where he relys on one to one contact and he found that his skin condition was obviously disquieting the people he had to speak to, this made hm anxious and so the dapsone was good in that it at least made him appear normal to others. But at the same time he has become very lethargic and tired, up until then he had been fit and active. It may have initially been the change to a GF diet, or the newly imposed lifestyle, who knows?

His dermatologist had never experienced DH before and admits that she is learning as 'we go', his GP is very honest and just says "I really cannot advise you about something I know nothing of". He has spoken to the haematologist and the dermatologist but cannot translate the tests for someone in his condition.

Hi Angel1980 - I came out in the DH rash 3 months ago and was very lucky as the locum at my surgery knew her stuff and immediately diagnosed DH with CD and blood tests confirmed her diagnosis. The only way to treat DH is to have a totally gluten free diet but it is taking time to clear and I still itch although do not have the rash now just the scars to prove it! Ask your GP for a CD blood test and take it from there.Good Luck
