Change of notification to DVLA

after my last consultation, the letter sent to my GP was ambiguous ‘glaucoma/uncertain in both eyes’. As a precaution I contacted DVLA and did their Fields test and given clearance to carry on driving. At my latest appointment I asked the consultant to clarify and he said I definitely don’t have glaucoma in my left eye, and the right is still uncertain. However I cannot find a way to convey this information to the DVLA.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Hello, you could try emailing them glaucomaqueries@dvla.gov.uk or calling 0300 79 06 806. It is important to quote any reference number you have. Best to advise them you do not have glaucoma in both eyes. Wishing you all the best.

I’ve had same issue - mind you since moving from North Yorkshire to South and subsequent change of hospitals I’ve had different diagnoses in South Yoryevery time I go to the eye clinic - been told I had a hole in macular - then contacted to say doctor had looked at previous patient images - I’ve always been glaucoma suspect then visit before told full blown glaucoma in both eyes to my recent visit when the new doctor (I was in and out in 2 minutes - quickest eye examination I’ve ever had) said I’d never been to hospital before, so had no baseline for my eye pressure and told me I had ocular tension in one eye and glaucoma suspect in the other - I like you don’t know how to let DVLA know or if I should as my concern is next visit I could have yet another diagnosis 🤷🏼‍♂️

Agreed. When my mum was diagnosed with glaucoma, raised pressure was really the only criterion as they didn’t have the sophisticated diagnostic equipment they have now. These days, it seems like a bit of a moving feast. After a diagnosis of glaucoma in my right eye in 2022, I’ve now had two doctors saying even that diagnosis is suspect,

I have glaucoma in both eyes so definitely had to notify DVLA. I therefore do a DVLA vision test every 3 years. If I remember correctly glaucoma in only one eye is not notifiable. Hopefully others can confirm.

Yes that’s true, and previously I hadn’t informed them. As I say GP letter was ambiguous last time and I notified DVLA in due course. The problem I have now is finding a way to roll back, given that the consultant confirmed no glaucoma in left eye. I’m going to try ringing them next week.
