When I had pressures taken with puff of air they where 19 but on Friday at private clinic they both 25. Why would there be such a difference

Specsavers pressure test
Eye pressure varies during the day. Generally higher in the morning than the evening. The puffer test is less invasive and a different method to the hospital pressure testing hence difference in results. With all results its important to know things like corneal thickness which can also affect results. The puff test is an easy tolerable quick screen ..which is great if there is nothing else but the hospital pressure tests are more accurate.
I had pressures taken same time, specsavers said its same readings has the hospital use ?
Hi,
My eye pressures have read on the high side for couple of decades now. Mid to high 20’s. Spec savers referred me to hospital. I am on latanprost to reduce the high pressures. I have thick corneas so the puffer in Specsavers is not accurate. Hospital equipment is more accurate. I also have primary angle closure. I now have very thin fluid at back of my eyes so awaiting next appointment to see what treatment I next require. My pressures were 17 last reading which for me is excellent. The best advice I can give, is to go prepared with a list of questions. Ask for a second opinion if not happy. I have done that on occasion. You are entitled to second opinion. Unfortunately when one hears bad news, one is not prepared with list of questions until following appointment. Request early appointment if concerned. I do that as well. I chase all my appointments as rarely get invite when due. Phone consultant’s secretary to request appointment. Wishing you all the best.
Hi Anonoms
I have the same problem with Eye Pressure readings : My Opticians "puff of air" were 16/17, Hospital Regular Review Test on a "Rebound Tonometer" were 14/14 and then I attended a Hospital Consultant Review on the "Goldmann Tonometer" they were 22/24 each of the tests were done at similar times.. I was shocked and upset believing my pressures were ok. My Consultant assured me that the most reliable reading was on the Goldmann Tonometer. My drops were immediately change. Personally I would not trust any "Puff of Air" Opticians readings ever again. I now insist on the Goldmann Tonometer.
any test done that touches your eye will always be more accurate than with anything that doesn't touch your eye
that's why a tonometer (blue light) test is always more accurate
had a puffer test and that said 17, two minutes later the tonometer said 9
