Hello. You do not mention what drops you are taking, but if it is an eyedrop in the traditional bottle, then it will contain a preservative called Benzalkonium chloride (BAK). People can have a bad reaction to this, causing their eyes to become red and inflamed. If this is the case, then get back to your consultant to see if they can prescribed you an preservative free option. These come in individual vials or multidose bottles which have a small dot/blister on the top.

Using a dry eye drop 20 minutes before you put your eyedrops in can help with the stinging. Some people also mention storing their eyedrops in the door of the fridge helps as it is cool when it goes into the eye.

Thankyou Trish for your help I think I might start putting them in the fridge door for now. I’m at the hospital on Friday so I will speak to the surgeon about it.

I have kept my drops in fridge for a number of years now. Mainly because I found it easier to apply them when could feel the cold drop in my eye.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble Angel. From time to time I too get very watery eyes to the point where it looks like I'm crying. I have tracked it down (mostly) to air conditioning and some kinds of central heating. The worst ever though is train travel and aeroplanes. Not always possible, but I try to avoid these situations but sometimes, there is no apparent cause and I just have to put up with it! As you say, it can be very uncomfortable but it doesn't happen often, thankfully.

Good luck to you and I hope you don't get it too often.
