Hi all,So 17 months after my trab surgery after everything has been stable, suddenly I'm getting frequent terrible headaches. My local optician tested my pressure for me but by the time I had the appointment the headache had subsided. The pressure was raised by 5 points so my hunch is it was on its way back down after a spike.
Anyway, at the glaucoma clinic they say yes that could be the case but would only know for sure if I test the pressure whilst the headache is at it's worst. I have asked if I could get hold of a machine to test it myself at home and they said no. They want to wait until they see more damage on my optic nerve before doing anything. I feel helpless as i'm just allowing myself go more blind. The blind patch I have in the eye is very close to my central vision, so just a tiny bit more damage could leave that eye useless, which would be a distater for my work. I need to be proactive to protect it.
My regular consultant is away at the moment but I will email him when he gets back to ask his opinion.
I have since found out about the icare home tonometer. The problem is it is too expensive for me to buy... especially as I would only need to use it once or twice to find out if I'm having spikes.
So I thought I'd reach out on here to see if someone has one they would be willing to hire out to me for a short period of time, or has one they no longer use I could buy?

It was expensive, over £2000.00, but when its your eyesight you find the money.
It is easy to use and keeps a log of your results so you can track how the pressures change as the day goes on and after sleeping. After my operations I tested at least morning and evening until the results settled down to a pattern.
As with the puff test in opticians and the 'gold standard' test at your consultant using a Goldman tonometer there is a difference in readings, so I tested with my consultant immediately after he tested with his machine to give the correct correction figure.
It is quite amazing how the figures do fluctuate depending on the time of day, so one piece of advice I would give to anyone is always book the same time of day for a pressure test as it does vary.
The whole point of treatment is to stop progression, not waiting for more damage to happen before they intervene!
I hope your consultant is back soon. If not, get back to the eye secretary with your concerns. You should be able to be seen by a different consultant.
