As so many patients with glaucoma have migraine, I thought they may be interested in a programme on the Radio World Service today at 11.30 am. It was called' Health Check 'about brain health. Vitamin B2( Riboflavine) deficiency was mentioned as a possible problem in relation to migraine.

An article in 'Food your miracle medicine ' by Jean Carper has quite a lot of advice on headaches and migraine. Research was done using ginger, just 1/3 of a teaspoon of powdered ginger mixed with water was given at the 'aura' stage to abort the migraine this worked in 30 minutes . The patient took the same dose 4 times a day for 3-4 days , it seemed so successful that the patient continued eating uncooked fresh ginger regularly as part of her diet with sustained relief .

I suppose drug companies would not be keen to promote ginger as unable to patent it and no side effects!

There’s quite a lot of reputed health benefits with fresh ginger. Ginger health shots are quite the thing at the moment. I eat quite a lot of ginger in stir fries and take ginger and with honey in warm water as a favourite sore throat or cold cure. I hadn’t heard of migraine help though.

I’d question how they know the ginger ended the aura after 30 mins though. My auras vary in length and can stop after just a few minutes or can go on longer. It would be hard to be sure what had had an effect. 🤔

I’m off to check out Riboflavin though!

Thank you for the tip! 🙂

My opthalomogist asked if I suffered migraine or raynauds and said that there was a link , especially to normal tension glaucoma . Both can cause poor blood flow which can affect the optic nerves
