Hi all!I read a post on here some weeks ago about taking Engevita daily to obtain a variety of vit Bs to hopefully help with glaucoma.

I purchased Engevita today only to read on Google

'when not to consume Engevita'

and it suggested not to consume with glaucoma?

I presently take 3g of vit B3 daily (in line with the ongoing trial) and hoped that taking a teaspoon of Engevita daily would help the vit B3 work better (as a combination of the vitamin Bs could help the vitamin work better?)

Before I start using it just wondered if anyone has any info on the subject?

As with all of us I am trying anything/everything to keep my glaucoma from progressing in my 'only sighted eye'!

Thanks all!

Hello Extrahelp,

Interested to hear that you discovered on Google that taking Engevita was not recommended with Glaucoma. Having a bit of a search I could not find that reference, but it seems surprising.

Years ago I was always told that it was important to take a variety of B vitamins as otherwise one on it's own may not be so beneficial. Perhaps this is outdated...like me !

I did try Vit B3 x 500mg daily plus Engevita a while ago but after 3 months developed optic nerve bleeds ?? cause , so I stopped the Vit B and no more bleeds.

Infact recently have taken lower doses of B3 and continued Engevita again with no more problems.

One of the Glaucoma consultants on a webinar said that if he had this disease he would take Vit B 3 himself. I managed to contact the consultant at Moorfields doing the research and told him about my possible side effects, he was interested and said that was exactly why the research was needed.

Everyone is different, but it is maybe worth asking the medics to look for any bleeds when you have an examination, as apparently they do come and go and sometimes trickey to see.

Best wishes

I really appreciate your detailed reply, thankyou. I'll try and work out how to upload my Google find..

I recall having a couple of what the hospital docs called haemmorages as I remember feeling panicked because of the cerebral haemorrhage I suffered in 1998, until the doc explained its nothing to do with that but just a nerve bleed that normally took 4-6 weeks to disperse-this happened 3/4?yrs ago and nothing since?

What a difficult journey this is?!

I'll keep up the vitb3 dose and mention my concerns at nxt appt..thankyou again for sharing your conversations with the people in the know!

Much appreciated..

Thank you for the article, very useful to know. Well worth asking the medics, as you say. I will ask too and will report any news after I have seen a retinal surgeon in November ( if not on strike ).

I do not like marmite but do eat home made bread with yeast, but not much daily and only 1 desert spoon Engevita with breakfast, plus the small Vit B dose.

On November 15th there is a Glaucoma UK webinar discussing the Vit B3 research, so I will try and ask about nutritional yeast then.
