I'm not on that medication but I know how you feel about lack of information.

Glaucoma UK website and RNIB are quite good source of information

I've been on lots of medication (Uveitic Glaucoma) before my shunt operation, it is scary. I am lucky as I had someone to talk to. Good luck in your journey, we are here for you if you need to vent!

yes I take amlopidine, I think my high blood pressure was caused by stress about the glaucoma…. I don’t have any problems with it, other than that it did make me a bit dizzy when I first started taking it. Now I take it before bed so I don’t notice it. I’m still on a cocktail of three glaucoma drops for one eye, had a trab in the other.

I find that even the most expert consultant in their field doesn’t really understand what happens when you take a mixture of drugs/drops, to manage different conditions. so important to make a note of any side effects and get your eyes checked regularly.

when you were first diagnosed, we’re you asked for a list of your current medications? These will have been taken into consideration when your latanoprost eye drops were prescribed.

Most medications come with varying degrees of possible side effects ranging from very common to rare. However, it is worth keeping in mind, that your Consultant will have taken everything into consideration and in his/her opinion the use of the eye drops will be more beneficial to you.

It may ease your anxiety to know that cardiovascular side effects are rare, it may also help to be proactive, note anything new you experience whilst using the drops so that you can flag it at your next appointment, and if you feel you need to report it sooner, you can always ring the glaucoma unit and speak to someone.

If you are feeling really anxious about interactions between your current medications and latanoprost, to the point that you cannot cope, reach out to your GP practice and tell them exactly how you are feeling, they are there to help you come to terms with things. I know it’s difficult to get appointments these days but if you tell them how anxious and concerned you are, I’d think a GP will at least call you, if not see you. Be prepared, write a list of your medications, your conditions, and why you are concerned about starting the latanoprost, to make sure you don’t forget something you may remember later.

Try to remember, you have been prescribed treatment because it’s been decided it is what you need, rare side effects are exactly that … RARE. The glaucoma unit is there to help you, and they have your best interests at heart.

Take care.

thank you both very much. The consultant didn’t check my meds at all, nor ask for any conditions or treatments. I am on an awful lot!😬 However reading your replies has made me reevaluate and realise that I am probably overreacting and a bit overwhelmed. So I will settle down and make an appointment with GP for a chat. I am using the drops as directed and will definately comply with the treatment. Think I just needed some reassurance…. Juggling a lot of medical issues and meds is hard sometimes. I have got to 80 doing it but seem to be less able to cope now. I am on my own so have no one to talk things through with at home Thank you all.

it can be overwhelming, I’m pleased you’re going to make an appointment with the GP to talk through your concerns. This group is a wealth of information too, and is always here to offer support and encouragement.

Hi I've been on Amlopidine for 3 years now and on Monopost and Tiopex drops for ocular hypertension. I also have wet AMD. I was very anxious about Amlopidine making my conditions worse. I have asked my consultant, GP and a pharmacist about any side effects to my eye conditions and have been reassured by all three that there is no connection and Amlopidine is safe to take. I hope this helps you. Its all very stressful isnt it. Best wishes.

Thank you so much for your reply and your kindness. It is reassuring to know that the professionals do not have concerns and I will put it out of my mind now and concentrate in getting the drops in 🤣! Struggling a bit there! I hope that you are doing well and managing your conditions. When you have a lot going on it is difficult sometimes. Thanks again . 🤗
