DVLA - still waiting for over 19 months for decision

Hi everyone, this my first post but I have been reading other posts for a couple of years.

Like so many others I had my license revoked following a field test. To cut a v long story short I finally got the correct forms etc for DVLA and sent them in March 2021 with a private field test that met the published requirements.

I managed to get through on phone in October 21 to be told it was still awaiting processing. Next came a letter in December 21 saying they were requesting the opinion of my hospital consultant and a binocular esterman field test to be done at hospital. I finally got a hospital appointment in June 22! Consultant was ok with me driving and gave me a copy of the field test which seemed to be ok for dvla requirements.

DVLA received hospital letter at beginning of August. It has been with their medical team since. I try to ring every two weeks now but still with medical team. I am told I am a priority 1 case and have been since at least May.

Is anyone else a priority 1 case and if so has your wait been as long. I haven’t written to mp or anyone but it’s so frustrating having kept car taxed and insured to park on road but can’t drive it. I am trying to be patient but at the end of every week when no letter has been received it is very depressing.

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi, huge sympathy! They didn't renew my licence in Jan even tho my eye specialist thought all was acceptable. Eventually, after lawyer's letter and my MP getting involved, got it back last month... but they asked for yet more tests. It is incredibly frustrating and nerve-wracking all the more so with the delays. Ask Specsavers for a copy of your tests. I sent mine in with a letter from the eye-surgeon saying it seemed perfectly fine to him, but it was the phone-call from the MP's agent that got things moving.

Hello. You can email the DVLA to chase things up. This way you have a "paper trail" as well. Give them as much info as you can. They normally reply within a week.

great news, I have heard from DVLA and they are issuing a new licence. It took a long time but glad I didn’t give up.

Good luck to everyone else in the same position.
