anybody heard of the promising new Vitamin B3 Nicotinimide trials? 3grams a day in trials so far show Visual Field stabilisation apparently. Moorefields eye hospital have apparently started a 4 year trial.

B3 Nicotinomide trials….
When I had my regular check up at Moorfields recently I asked about this.
My consultant said that a trial in Australia has shown very encouraging results and therefore there’s no reason to not start taking it myself (although I’m not part of a trial).
I now take 500mg 3 times a day.
Thanks Jan I’ve just seen a presentation by a Professor Jonathan Crowston. There seems to be substantial evidence as you say. I’ve ordered some too. The trial started with 1.5 g increased to 3g a day from what I’ve read. I’m meeting my consultant this afternoon so will ask him too. If taken with IOP lowering therapies it hopefully may allow us to fight this thing even better.
hi Chris, did you ask your consultant?
hi there I did ask a professor of ophthalmology who advised me to take it. Initially I took 3G per day but I thought it was a bit excessive so take 1.5 g daily. Short term studies showed significant improvement in inner retinal function. Moorefields have started a 4 year trial to ascertain if this is the case over a longer term. Personal choice but I’m not waiting 4 years to find out. If it’s a viable neuro protectant then I figure why not! When you think about it, it’s only a low cost vitamin which won’t hurt so long as you don’t go silly with the dose. If I’m doubt consultst with a GP. But there is a plethora of bonafide research papers online that conclude protection is afforded by it.
It sounds like a good idea, Jan. Could you tell me which one you are taking? There are many slightly different types on sale online. Nicotinamide? Niacin?
I have heard about the trial. Where are you getting the Blue Marina from? I did start taking B3 when I first heard about it so would like to get some more.
Thanks, I will do the same!
