I have been on Monoprost for 2.5 months, no local side effects. However, started to have joint and muscle pains over he last month. Has anyone else had this systemic side effect and what was your experience?

Yes. I had the same bad reaction to monopost as I did to virtually ever other glaucoma drop. Joint pain, muscle pain, gastrointestinal issues and peripheral neuropathy. Unfortunately I also have the same problem with anaesthetic drops and fluorescein dye. I initially had a bad reaction to antibiotics which caused these problems and ever since, a wide spectrum of medications cause me the same issues.

Eventually my glaucoma was controlled by surgical intervention.

Many thanks for your reply! How long does it take until symptoms subside once you stop them?

Typically a month or two for the effects to subside for me. Unfortunately I cannot recall if I was on steroid drops at the time as I've been on and off of them a lot. It's a possibility. I've never had oral steroids.

Hi xkin039,I have been using Monopost 1 drop each eye in the evening since mid-February this year. I have noticed that I can get transient pain and tenderness to the touch in different areas without any history of trauma or over-use.

The areas are usually where there are ligaments and tendons in the upper and lower limbs. Anti inflammatory gel ( eg Voltarol/ Brufen or generic equivalents help a lot). There is no redness nor swelling and the pain & tenderness subside after about 72 hours. I may not get any more recurrence for 2-3 weeks then another area mysteriously causes symptoms. I have not had it investigated as I can carry on with my usual activities, but it might end up more frequent or limiting and then I will take it further. It might have nothing to do with Monopost, although it has started in the last 3 months. Possible coincidence.
