Recommended lubricant drops

Hi all! I'm 2 weeks post trabeculectomy, currently on dexamethasone 2 hourly and chloromphenical 4x/day.

Last weekend I had some grittiness in the eye (irritation from the stitch).

All sorted now - surgeon trimmed the stitch at last appointment. But he recommended that if I had something similar again that I use lubricating drops to ease it while waiting for next appointment. He named some drops but I didn't write them down and can't remember what they were called. Does anyone have any recommendations?

The surgeon said that lubricating drops would be better than lubricating ointment.

I've tried lots of different eye lubricants. For me I find Clinitas Soothe Multi to be one of the best. Preservative free and contains the highest amount of sodium hyalauronate permissable. I've heard Thealoz Duo is also very good but I didn't get on with it.

Loose stitches can be very irritating (I've had quite a few).

Hi Matthew. I have been using Hycosan extra (the one with the red top) for many years now and find it works best for me, some of the others I have tried have left my eyes blurry for quite a time after. It has different way of dispensing the drops than most but is easy enough to use and is preservative free.

Hi Matthew. I have been very pleased with Hylo Tear. It's preservative free and phosphate free. There is a pump action to release one drop at a time. It feels quite cold so is rather soothing. I get mine on repeat prescription and don't know if you can buy it over the counter.Discard 6 months after opening.

Hope this helps.

Hi Matthew. I use HYLO FORTE which is very good. It’s Preservative and Phosphate free about 4 times a day - I’ve recently had both eyes operated with the Preserflo Shunt. I now use the Clinitas gel at night time if my eye feels dry and gritty by then just before sleep in the right eye. I’m having my stitches out next Wednesday so hopefully, if needs be, I can do the same in the left eye I’d needs be! You can ask for them via a prescription.

I take the HYLO Forte with me everywhere just in case I get dust in my eyes etc.

My surgeon gave me Hycosan Extra (red box). You can buy them over the counter without prescription. I still use them one year on each morning in one eye which is prone to feeling a bit dry and doctor says that's a good idea rather than stopping and re-starting.
