Hi everyone.... it seems we need more than eye drops... read this very interesting..

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/287...

Purpose: To investigate the effects of an antioxidant dietary supplement that includes Ginkgo biloba, on retinal and retrobulbar blood flow in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG).

Conclusion: One-month oral administration of antioxidants produced increases in biomarkers of ocular blood flow within retinal and retrobulbar vascular beds in patients with OAG.

Hi Valfrance, thank you for sharing this very interesting information. I have often thought that raised IOP is not the only cause of glaucoma. Having tried various dietary supplements, I get totally confused about what I should be taking to help this condition. I tried ginkgo biloba for a while until I read about it’s possible side effects when combined with other medications. I already take an eye supplement and may consider trying ginkgo again having read the article - thank you and wishing you a very Happy New Year xx

Another very interesting article, but Ginko Biloba does have a lot of side effects. As Redshoes 15 says it also has numerous interactions with drugs used for other diseases.

Personally I would be very cautious as Ginko can increase bleeding.( I had many retinal hemorrhages prior to surgery) Sadly so many drugs and herbs, even foods do have so many side effects.

Perhaps more long term trials would be helpful.

Health unlocked members could maybe ask if we could be included in any NHS regulated Glaucoma research trials.

My favourite saying;

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful , committed citizens can change the world; indeed it's the only thing that ever has.

Interesting! When I was first diagnosed last year the consultant advised me to take Ginkgo Biloba which I have done ever since. No idea if it’s making any difference but will live in hope! Am going to clinic tomorrow to see if my second SLT has worked - wish me luck. Am feeling nervous now but sort of resigned to eye drops. Happy New Year to you
