Hello I just discovered this interesting article its from 2016, its very easy to understand. I was just helping another person on the forum when I found this. It explains about the negative effects of BAK, that is a preservative found in many eye drops.

To add to this post, there is another preservative free alpha antagonist that is an alternative to alphagan purite that seems hard to get. Well for me anyway in France.

It is called Brimazed has the same ingredients as alphagan however preservative free. It is a new drop produced here in France. Perhaps they will use it in the UK.

Thank you , as you say, very useful knowledge about preservatives.

I had no idea about the damage from preservatives until one of the consultant's letters mentioned ..... 'punctate staining over the cornea. No doubt the preservatives in Brimonidine are irritating the ocular surface'( in July 2018)........... nothing was said to me at the clinic so I was very alarmed reading this !

Wish I had known all this information years ago.

Luckily there are so many more preservative free drops these days.

I had Simbrinza (Brinzolamide+Brimonidine) for several years which always gave me red sore eyes, but at that time it seemed the only thing to keep the pressures down.

Very relieved to only need lubricant drops now since the eye shunt ops.

I tend to think of Glaucoma as a big jigsaw puzzle which I struggle to understand.
